An art organization in Central Park, New York

The exhibition of the New Yorker artists, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, called ‘The Gates’ 1979-2005.

An installation…

It took 26 years to fulfill the project.

The walking path of the Central Park has 25 dissimilar widths and 37 kilometers length. There they have produced 7300 fabric panels. There are 3 meters saffron colour vinyl fabrics, which lean down from 5 meters height having widths from 2 to 5 meters and they have stabilized these with iron stands of 250 to 400 kilos of each without any holes opened on the ground.

‘The Gates’ from the camera of Sarp Erkaya…

It is impossible not to be impressed by this work of art,  which involved tremendous sacrifice.

Other impressing works of these artists:

Packaging of Port Neuf in Paris, 1975-85

The projects of Sonoma and Marin Counties, California, Running Fence, 1972-76

The project the artists are working on presently is 'Over the River, Project for Arkansas River, Colorado

River, Project For Arkansas River, Colorado.'

This artist couple used no sponsors and earned money only from the sale of the pictures, posters and original charcoal drawings that they have made for their projects.

Thanking Sarp Erkaya, who, with the photos he has sent to us, has provided the revitalizing of ‘The Gates’ project.

It has taken 26 years to obtain the necessary permits and the financial supports for this project.
